Will excessive sweat hamper the therapeutic process?

I have been pondering something lately.

Riding my bike to work this summer.

There are a lot of reasons that it would be a good thing:

  • Exercise exercise exercise
  • better for my checking account
  • better for the environment
  • exercise
  • more exercise

There are also a few things keeping me from comitting at this point:

  • Kansas is fucking ridiculously humid in the summer. This equals sweat and B.O.
  • I would have helmet hair
  • Nobody wants to be in a small office with a stinky therapist
  • I probably wouldn't be able to come home for lunch anymore
  • Helmet hair

Yes most of my reasons not to are vain and selfish.

But come on people. I have curly hair...between the humidity and the helmut I will look like a sad drowned poodle.

some options for combating the reasons not to...

- wear a scarf over your hair and under the helmet (this works really well for me, but i have short straight hair)

- bring your work clothes in a bag and change at work

- keep some washcloths and bodywash at work and do a quick wipe down when changing into your work clothes

- keep some hair product or a water spritzer at work to revive your hair (no idea how curly hair works so i'm sure this one is a big hurdle)

now i need to take my own advice :) i go walking at lunch and then ride a 49cc scooter back to work with a big motorcycle helmet...it's much better for the environment than a car, but it's not any better for my body :) as close as i live to work, i should really be riding a bike!

good luck, i hope you can figure out a way to do it :)

Ooh, the scarf just might help the helmet hair issue!! I had not thought of that.

I bought a helmet and a girl butt friendly bike seat yesterday so it would seem that I have decided to do this.

I had thought about having hygiene products at work and carrying my clothes, so that helped cement the deal for me.

We'll see about the helmet hair issue. The scarf should help and usually turning my head upside down and running a pick through it and adding some hairspray will often turn things around.

The ride is only 2.3 miles one way, so I really don't have any truly good excuses not to go for it. I hope that once I have a good groove going I can even overcome the coming home for lunch dilemma.

You should totally join me in the quest to bike to work. We can start a movement or something. I always wanted to start a movement.

a movement yeah!
or at the very least a club!

we could be the
NAISAWLTBMWHROOENT Cyclers

(not as in shape as we'd like to be moms who have run out of excuses not to)

kind of catchy isn't it?!
